2009 was an "amazing year" according to Kathy Calvin, President of the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation.  “Over $10,000 was raised, thanks to the participation of the following sponsors, donors, volunteers, and of course, the spelling teams!  All our spellers are such good sports.  Volunteering their time and talents is comparable to making a donation to our fundraiser.  And there certainly wouldn’t be a spelling BEE without them!  We are so grateful to everyone involved, including the enthusiastic audience, who cheered for our spellers and bought 50/50 raffle tickets, especially the anonymous purchaser who won the raffle and donated the proceeds to the Foundation.   Thank you all for making this another successful event to benefit our Friends of the Foundation Operating Fund."
